Up to date on vaccines and microchipped, Kya is ready for her forever home! She has been loved and nurtured her whole life but the set-ups just were not right in her two previous homes. Kya needs room to run and hunt. Her need for sustained, full-out speed and set exercise routines begs for only experienced Brittany owners to adopt her. Kya's bloodline is one of champions, and she lives up to that champion spirit and loves to keep busy. We believe she would do well in an active home that can offer a regular daily routine of off-leash exercise. So, a home providing secure, fenced-in acreage, with access to the outside from a doggy door would be an ideal set-up for our active, Florida-born Brittany girl.
Beautifully Behaved Indoors and OutdoorsKya can be trusted indoors, and when she's been properly exercised, she comes inside and either sleeps on a dog bed or in her crate. At night she settles in well and sleeps quietly. She loves car rides and new adventures.
She has learned to come to two blasts of a whistle but would benefit from obedience classes with her new owners, as sometimes her hunt drive makes her forget to come when called. She doesn't try to escape from her yard, doesn't dig and doesn't climb fences.
Loving but Independent with a Strong Hunt DriveKya is not a Velcro dog. She is independent and likes ear scratches and belly rubs but after an hour of lying near you, she retreats to a dog bed to stretch out in her own space, sometimes with a deer antler or horn. Currently, Kya is sharing her foster home with 4 other senior Brittanys. She respects their space and plays well with the young Brittanys, too. But, if she has to make a choice over hunting lizard or playing rough-and-tumble with the other Brittany dogs, she will pick the lizards.
Loves Challenges and Mental StimulationKya's excellent health and incredible Brittany stamina and physique is matched by her keen intelligence and need for mental stimulation. Search and Rescue training is something we think she would excel at since she loves to work her nose and her superior Brittany intelligence.
