A Handsome French Brittany
Oliver is a quiet boy, not a barker. He watches, observes and takes his time to warm up and trust. Once he does he is the most loyal and gentle boy. It took 3 weeks in his foster to understand nothing bad was going to happen to him and he started to enjoy his walks and the safe squirrel filled backyard at his foster home. He loves his twice a day 2-3 mile walks and off leash time at the neighborhood dog park. He is a lean muscular 34 lbs. His coat his gorgeous and soft, and he does fine with grooming. He currently shares his home with two French Brittany female seniors and he takes their lead on everything. Because of his love for watching the wildlife, we believe he would do best in a home with a fenced in yard. He is not a fan of crating and he is now trusted uncrated in his foster home where he likes to sleep on a bed in the bedroom, or if allowed the bed.
Enjoys watching the wildlife
From his foster mom: "I think Oliver had one of the best days in his life yesterday. I was home, doors are open. He loves monitoring the yard from the porch or lie in the grass, perfectly content. He is a charm to walk in the morning, not so much in the evening because my gazillion neighborhood squirrels are out and he wants to hunt them in the worst way, sometimes bucking to get out of his harness. He lets other dogs sniff him without a problem but is not really interested in sniffing them. He is now used to me stopping to talk to people but will still not go up to them. Knows his name, knows 'come' and 'no'. Loves being petted by his person. I wish you could see him run, he is gorgeous. He is one of those dogs that needs a person/family willing to give him to time to get to know them/warm up to them. Once he does, he'll be such a great loyal companion who wants to please in any way he understands. If I had a dog like him, I would definitely a doggie door leading out to the yard. He'll come in quickly when I call him but boy, does he like my itty bitty yard. Have not seen him try to scale the fence but given how easily he jumps on my high bed, I am sure he can. He is definitely the most hunt loving Brittany I have had in the house. Love it when he goes in stealth mode, almost crouching down and moving in slow mode. He now takes treats from me, but is not treat motivated."
History
Oliver was a controlled owner surrender. He came from a home that rescued a lot of dogs; but kept them all. Oliver's owner surrendered him because she felt he deserved a better life and more attention then she could give him. The shelter that took him in reached out to FBR for help. He was surrendered indicating he was 3-5 years old.
